- It was outside the remit or powers of the council
Additional information about this rejection:
Thank you for submitting your petition asking the Council to revoke the ban on babies at Cinemas. The authority has to work within the requirements of the Licensing Act 2003. This puts a responsibility on all local authorities to enforce the requirements of the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The BBFC grade films to be shown at cinemas and other licensed premises. Films graded by the BBFC as PG require by law that babies are not permitted to watch such films. It is therefore not possible for the Council to accept your petition as we do not have the power to change legislation and must comply with and enforce the law. As changes to legislation is a responsibility of Parliament it might be more appropriate for you to direct your petition to them. They have a webpage that supports this facility, which might assist you: https://petition.parliament.uk/.
