We the undersigned petition Reigate and Banstead Borough Council to install solar PV panels on the roofs of all existing and future buildings under council control provided the roofs are technically suitable for this purpose. We live in the borough of Reigate and Banstead.

Petition update from the council, 28 September 2015

Thank you for your interest in the Council's use of solar panels.

The Council continues to consider energy saving and sustainable additions to new builds as part of a comprehensive energy study which forms part of the design process. For example, the new Horley Leisure Centre has biomass boilers and solar panels.

I can confirm that existing stock was reviewed in 2011 for the purposes of installing solar panels. The options available to the Council were shown to be minimal due to the orientation of the roof areas and the Town Hall site being listed and in a conservation zone.

The only location that could be considered was the main building at the Earlswood depot; however, this was not progressed because the depot was subject to a significant development, which might have resulted in the solar panels being surplus to requirements.

We will continue to keep under review the installation of solar panels on Council buildings.

Yours sincerely,

John Reed
