We the undersigned petition Reigate and Banstead Borough Council to initiate a Park Homes Forum to impart information/awareness of the new legislation regarding park homes. More details
Petition update from the council, 02 September 2013I am responding to your petition which asked the Council to organise a Park Homes Forum to promote education and awareness of the new park homes legislation. We understand that you would wish to invite residents of other Park Homes in the Borough to this forum.
There are currently nine licensed caravan and mobile home sites in the borough with a total of 358 pitches; you can find a register of all of these sites on the Council’s website. Park homes such as these often cater for the older generation, and offer many people an affordable opportunity to escape to the country. But we realise that some dishonest park home operators abuse their position, bullying and intimidating their residents and manipulating the law to make a profit at their expense.
Personally, I welcome the introduction of the Mobile Homes Act 2013 which gives more rights to people who live in a park home on a residential pitch. I also welcome the interest shown in setting up a forum and would be happy for the Council to host a one-off event as described. However, I don’t believe that it is the Council’s role to administer this exercise or to give further practical help to support this group beyond this single meeting.
If you are interested in organising an event to promote awareness of the new legislation, and would like to hold this event in one of the Town Hall meeting rooms, please email Mary Nicholls, PA to the Head of Community Services, with details of when you would like to hold the meeting and how many people you might expect to attend. If a suitable room is available at a date and time that meets your needs we would be happy to allow it to be used, free of charge, for a meeting of local Park Homes residents.
I hope your event is a great success, please let me know how it goes
Cllr Mrs Rita Renton,
Portfolio Holder for Health.
