Petition update 3 from the council, 08 February 2011

Following the debate, the petition was referred to the Council's Executive for further consideration.
The Executive received a report on the Corporate Plan on 27 January 2011 (minutes are available on our website: http://www4.reigate-banstead.gov.uk/aksreigate/users/public/admin/kabmenu.pl?grpid=public#PLN

The report included a summary of the consultation comments, and the responses from the Council’s Strategic Management Team, as well as consideration of the petition.

After considering the report, the Executive decided that:
(i) Officers be instructed to investigate options for the future of the Banstead Leisure Centre, including a refurbishment of the existing facility for further report in Summer 2011;
(ii) all capital projects scheduled for a start date of April 2012 or beyond be subject to an annual review by the Executive as part of the budget process;
(iii) the revised Corporate Plan for 2011-15 as submitted, be approved (this is subject to Full Council approval on 10 February).

The Executive confirmed that the report on the Banstead Leisure Centre would include information from external consultants, as well as cost analysis of each option and implications for regeneration and the Council’s Leisure contract. The report will enable the Council to make a fully informed choice and will be made available at the appropriate time to all Councillors and interested stakeholders.

The decision on the Leisure Centre will, of course, be made in the context of other priorities and the financial position of the Council.

The Council has therefore completed its consideration of the petition.

More details from petition creator

The Council have now announced that the new sports centre will no longer include a swimming pool so as to reduce the costs.
